The security forces conducted a major operation that resulted in 16 Maoist fighters getting killed in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday. Security actions to extinguish Naxal insurgency have increased in the region as this operation was one of the ongoing operations against Naxalites. A distant section of Kerlapal police station, which lies deep within forest land, served as the location for another important Naxalism battle.
The Encounter and Its Aftermath
Security forces headquartered at the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out their operation against Naxalite targets around 8 am based on confirmed intelligence data. Maoist activity reports prompted security forces to initiate their operation during the night of Friday.
A Quick Response by Security Forces
The Maoist opposition failed to stop the security forces, who eliminated sixteen insurgents during the operation. The Inspector General of Police at the Bastar Range, named Sundarraj P, stated that security forces recovered 16 dead Naxalite bodies from the encounter area. Security forces remained in the area throughout the day in order to detect and examine additional potential threats or materials.

Two DRG jawan personnel received small injuries during the battle sequence. Medical staff is treating the security forces after they were reported to be in stable condition. The injuries received by security forces during these dangerous operations remind us about the hazardous nature of their work.
Weapons and Explosives Seized
Security teams recovered major amounts of weapons and explosives from the battlefield to demonstrate the strength of Naxalite operations throughout this territory. The cache includes:
- AK-47 rifles
- Self-loading rifles (SLR)
- INSAS rifles
- .303 rifles
- A rocket launcher
- • Barrel grenade launchers (BGL)
- Explosive materials
The recovery of weapons together with ammunition demonstrates that Maoist insurgents maintain a persistent threat across central India, so robust counter-terrorist measures remain essential.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Statement
Amit Shah, as Union Home Minister, used his social media platform to praise the forces involved in the successful mission. During their Sukma operation, security forces successfully performed combat actions that resulted in killing 16 Naxalites while capturing a large quantity of automatic weapons. Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji has announced that under his leadership, the elimination of Naxalism will be completed before the date of March 31, 2026.

The Indian Home Minister, Amit Shah, highlighted to violent factions through his address that they should leave their arms behind to seek harmony. According to his remarks, peace, together with development, remains the only means to achieve change rather than weapons and violence.
A Rising Tally of Successes in Chhattisgarh
The operation showcases a major win in anti-Naxal operations, which are actively being conducted throughout Chhattisgarh. The recent operation has pushed the total Naxalite elimination numbers to 132 throughout different encounters across the state during this year. The operations occurred mainly within the Bastar division, where Bijapur and other districts exist. Security approaches and regional enforcement agency coordination have collaborated successfully to boost operational outputs in the area.
The Path Forward: Commitment to Eradicating Naxalism
The government maintains its determined objective to wipe out Naxalism before March 31, 2026. The recent Sukma victory exists as a key component of an official plan to break down Naxalite operations while establishing comprehensive peace in all affected regions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads the Union government as it strengthens its efforts to remove Naxalism while implementing dual strategies of military operations and local area development.
